Water coming in right now? Call (956) 465-6045 — day or night, weekends and holidays. You will talk to a roofer, and we will tell you what to do while a crew heads your way.
Roofs do not wait for business hours to fail. A limb comes through during a midnight thunderstorm, a hailstorm cracks a skylight on a Saturday, or a slow leak suddenly brings down a ceiling. Austin Roofing provides Austin emergency roof repair 24/7 — stopping the water first, then fixing the roof properly once the danger has passed.
Our emergency crews cover Austin, East and South Austin, Round Rock, Pflugerville, Cedar Park, Leander, Georgetown, Hutto, Kyle, San Marcos, Dripping Springs, Lockhart and Bastrop, for homes, rental properties, apartment communities and commercial buildings.
What Counts as a Roofing Emergency?
If water, sky or a tree is where it should not be, it is an emergency. Common calls we take:
Active leaks
Water dripping through light fixtures, ceilings or walls during or after rain.
Fallen trees & limbs
Branches that punctured the roof deck or crushed a section of roof.
Storm openings
Shingles, ridge caps or metal panels torn away by straight-line winds, exposing the deck.
Hail breakthroughs
Cracked skylights, broken vents or punctured membranes after severe hail.
Sagging ceilings
Drywall bulging with trapped water — a sign the leak has been building for a while.
Commercial roof failures
Split membranes, blown-off edge metal or overflowing drains on flat roofs.
What to Do in the First Hour
The steps you take before we arrive can save thousands of dollars in interior damage. In order of priority:
Get people safe
Keep everyone out of rooms with a sagging ceiling or water near outlets and light fixtures. If water is near electrical, turn off that circuit at the breaker only if you can reach the panel safely and dry.
Stay off the roof
Wet roofs, storm debris, lightning and weakened decking make climbing dangerous. Never go up during a storm or at night.
Catch and contain the water
Buckets, towels and plastic sheeting under drips. If a ceiling is bulging, poke a small hole at the lowest point with a screwdriver to let water drain into a bucket — it relieves the weight and limits how far water spreads.
Protect belongings
Move electronics, furniture, rugs and documents away from the leak, or cover them with plastic.
Document everything
Take photos and video of the damage inside and, from the ground, outside. Note the time. These help with any insurance claim.
Call us — then your insurer
Call Austin Roofing for emergency protection, then report the damage to your insurance company. Most policies expect you to take reasonable steps to prevent further damage, and emergency tarping is one of them.
Emergency Roof Tarping: How It Works
Tarping is the backbone of emergency roof repair. Done right, a tarp keeps a damaged roof dry for weeks while the permanent repair is planned and, if needed, an insurance claim is reviewed. Done badly — a loose tarp held down with a few bricks — it blows off in the next gust and can damage more shingles on the way out.
Our crews use heavy-duty tarps that extend well past the damaged area and over the ridge where possible, secured with wood battens fastened through the tarp so wind cannot get under it. On flat commercial roofs we may use temporary membrane patches or sealants suited to the surface. We photograph the damage before we cover it, so the documentation is not lost under the tarp.
| Temporary fix | When we use it | How long it typically holds |
|---|---|---|
| Battened roof tarp | Missing shingles, holes and storm openings on pitched roofs | Weeks to a few months with checks after storms |
| Board-up and tarp | Tree punctures or holes larger than the decking can span | Until framing and deck repairs are made |
| Temporary sealant or patch | Small punctures, open seams, flashing failures | Short term — until the permanent repair visit |
| Membrane patch | Punctures and splits on flat commercial roofs | Short to medium term, depending on the membrane |
After the Emergency: Permanent Repairs
Once the roof is secured, we come back in daylight for a full inspection. You get a photo report showing the damage, what caused it and what it will take to fix — whether that is a targeted roof repair, storm repairs after hail or wind damage, or a full replacement if the roof was already near the end of its life. If you are unsure which way to go, our repair or replace quiz gives you a quick first read.
Why Austin Sees So Many Roof Emergencies
Central Texas weather turns quickly. Spring supercells bring hail and damaging straight-line winds, often in the late afternoon and evening. Summer is mostly dry and scorching, which bakes sealants and pipe boots until the first big downpour finds every crack. Tropical moisture can push heavy rain inland in late summer and fall, and Austin’s flash-flood-prone terrain is a reminder of how much water a single storm can drop in a short time.
Then there are the trees. Mature live oaks and pecans shade much of Austin, and limbs weakened by drought, heat or oak wilt can come down in winds that would otherwise do little harm. Keeping branches trimmed back from the roof is one of the cheapest forms of emergency prevention.
Filing an insurance claim? Keep receipts for emergency tarping and any water cleanup. Our photo report documents the storm damage, and we can meet your adjuster at the property. See how we help on the roof insurance claim help page.
Emergency Service for Commercial and Multi-Family Properties
When a roof fails over a store, office or apartment building, the clock runs faster. Water reaching inventory, equipment or occupied units multiplies the cost every hour. For property managers and business owners, our emergency crews focus on three things: stopping water entry at the source, protecting tenants and contents below, and documenting conditions for owners and insurers. On flat roofs that often means clearing clogged drains to relieve ponding, patching splits or punctures, and resecuring torn edge metal before the next band of rain arrives. Afterward, we provide a written plan for permanent repairs through our commercial roofing or multi-family roofing teams.

Emergency Roof Repair FAQs
Do you really answer emergency calls at night?
Yes. Austin Roofing offers 24/7 emergency service. Call (956) 465-6045 any time and you will reach someone who can help you secure your roof.
Will you tarp the roof during a storm?
We tarp as soon as it is safe to work on the roof. Crews do not go up during lightning or extreme winds, but we can advise you on protecting the inside of your home until conditions allow.
How long can a tarp stay on my roof?
A properly battened tarp typically protects a roof for weeks and sometimes longer, but it is a temporary fix. Sun and wind wear tarps down, so we recommend scheduling the permanent repair as soon as practical.
Does insurance pay for emergency roof tarping?
Many policies cover reasonable emergency repairs that prevent further damage after a covered event. Keep your receipt and photos, and check your policy or ask your agent to confirm.
What should I do if a tree falls on my roof?
Get everyone away from the affected rooms, avoid any downed power lines, and call 911 if anyone is hurt or lines are down. Then call us for tarping and roof repair; tree removal from the roof may require a tree service.
